The Red River District of Downtown Shreveport, Louisiana
The Red River District was opened in 2002 as a 12,000 square foot development. The buildings, designed to look historic and refurbished to 19th century architecture, housed restaurants, businesses and live entertainment venues.
In 2012, the City of Shreveport assumed the management and programming of the venue. to help promote the retail and dining establishments underneath the Texas Street Bridge. The RRD has a designated Events Coordinator hired through SPAR (Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation) whose sole responsibility is to program, promote, and market events that support RRD tenants.
The Red River District is steeped in history, and that history helps create a sense of place that is not found anywhere else in Shreveport. The RRD outdoor stage has seen talent spanning the generations, from James Burton to Miranda Lambert, creating an environment that engages music enthusiasts of all ages. It is this sense of place, deep musical roots, and support infrastructure that makes the RRD different from any other venue in Shreveport.
The ten columns that support the Texas Street Bridge are adorned with art that commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. The work focuses on the unique cultures that helped shape what is now known as Northwest Louisiana. The groups that make up this source of influence are African American, Native American, French, Spanish, and Cajun. The artists whose vision created this installation came from Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and New Orleans.
The Red River District is Shreveport and Bossier’s premier destination to work, eat, shop, and play!
